"I encourage to genuinely consider the 56 billion that killed annually for our greedy 7 billion. Nearly 30% of the world is dedicated to livestock at this point. You think it’s just going to stay that way? Regardless if you want to give meat up for life or not it amazes me that those numbers don’t inspire people to obtain a more veg-friendly diet. A life is a life."
It’s also really frustrating when you can’t follow a vegan diet because of your physical and mental health problems but militant vegans harass you and say you are a “murderer” and a “r*pist" and “you are a horrible meat cruncher” and call you “stupid” “ignorant” “selfish” “immoral” “disgusting” because you choose to consume animal-based products.
"Most people CAN live without it."
Let’s do some math.
15% of Americans live in poverty— that’s roughly 45.6 million.
10-15% of Americans live with an eating disorder— that’s another 45.6 million.
11% of Americans are living with a form of diabetes— 25.6 million.
8% of Americans live with severe to moderate food allergies— 15 million.
18% of Americans are living with a severe to moderate mental illness—57.7 million.
12% of Americans live in rural food deserts— 29.9 million.
20% of Americans live with a chronic illness— 65 million.
You were saying?
Those percentages probably don’t stack that way, but rather would overlap.
A person can live in poverty, have an eating disorder, have diabetes, have a food allergy, and a chronic illness all at the same time.
So 65 million is an erroneous number
65 million was the number of people with chronic illness, specifically.
If you looked at those percentages with a reasonable perspective, it’s highly likely that 40-50% of Americans fall into at least one of those categories. So, actually, the number of people included in at least one category has to be higher than 65 milion.
First, take the poverty percentage. 15% of ALL Americans. Although it isn’t foolproof to pretend 15% of each category is poor, and I know internet people love to look at the little details, lets realistically address the fact that perfect statistics for this particular conversation are unlikely to just be lying around.
So, then look at the other categories. In your head, take 15% away from each one. Also, the number of people who are likely to have a combination of food allergy and an eating disorder, for example, probably only removes about 3% of each non-poverty category for overlapping (if you look at the fact that something only makes up 10% of the overall population, that means any person has a 10% chance of having it. The chances of having two things are even lower) .
Mental illness and chronic illness probably have the highest overlaps with poverty because being ill can make you poor, and being poor can make you ill. So even if we pretend 75% of the people in those categories overlap and remove them from the pool, and also look at the chances of overlapping in all other areas and remove those percentages, we still end up with something loosely around 40% of the US population falling into at least one of these categories.
I know somebody out there might throw a tantrum about how inexact my method is, but I’m not strategically planning an urban map- just re-emphasizing what the original poster tried very hard to describe using these numbers. Even when you consider the overlaps, there are tens of millions of people (probably close to half of all Americans) being accused of murder and moral depravity when they don’t even have a choice. And I believe the secondary purpose is to point out that you shouldn’t assume to know a stranger’s life well enough to diagnose their moral values, because that makes you the jerk.
Don’t hate on kandi or PLUR, they’re both beautiful parts of the edm community. Hate on the people who misuse these ideas to “fit in” or preach “PLUR” and don’t practice it.
Those are the people ruining it. Not the people who get what it’s really all about. Because being apart of those things, with real people, has touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes.
